Dascyllus melanurus Bleeker 1854 —Blacktail dascyllus
Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Kavieng, New Ireland by Duncker & Mohr (1929: 67), based on ZMH 11931; record confirmed by Kailola (1975: 169). Specimens photogtraphed in Kavieng area in June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 14), and at St. KVGPMT50 (southeast of New Hanover) by Serge Andréfouët on 24 Aug. 2014. Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Central Indonesia east to Marshall Islands and Vanuatu, north to Philippines, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found among branching corals in sheltered inshore coral reefs and lagoons, 1–68 m depth. Marine.
