Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed at Kavieng fish market by Barry C. Russell during 7–28 June 2014. Specimens photographed at St. KVG19 ( Bagail Bay, Kavieng District) by Serge Andréfouët on 19 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken at Anelaua Island, off eastern New Hanover, at 3–16 m depth, St. KR 98, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Andaman Sea and Indonesia east to Yap (Caroline Islands) and Solomon Islands, north to Vietnam and Philippines, south to northern Australia. Found in coastal reefs or lagoons with sand or silt bottom, often in seagrass beds, 1–10 m depth. Marine.
