Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland by Allen & Erdmann (2012: 600); a video of a specimen taken at Anelaua Island, off eastern New Hanover, at 3–16 m depth, St. KR 98, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); a specimen observed at Nusa Channel, Kavieng District, 0–19 m depth, St. T 2, on 30 Oct. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Eastern Andaman Sea and Indonesia east to Philippines and Solomon Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in coastal reefs or lagoons with sand and silt bottom, 1–12 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
