Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed on 3 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District; a video of a specimen taken at Nubilus Island, off eastern New Hanover, at 3–32 m depth, St. KR 88, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Christmas Island (eastern Indian Ocean) and Indonesia east to Marshall Islands and Fiji, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found on deep patch reefs and seaward reef slopes, 2–40 m depth. Marine.
