Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken off Nusa Island, Kavieng District, 2–18 m depth, St. KR32, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Comores and Mauritius (Mascarenes) east to Marshall Islands, Line Islands, Fiji and Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in coastal, lagoon and seaward reefs, 2–20 m depth. Marine.
