Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken in Steffen Channel, Kavieng District, St. KR34, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken at Nubilus Island, off eastern New Hanover, at 3– 32 m depth, St. KR88, in 2014.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Mozambique Channel, Madagascar and Réunion (western Mascarenes) east to Line Islands, north to southern Japan, south to New Caledonia. Found on coral and rocky reefs, 3–25 m depth. Marine.
