Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Kavieng, New Ireland by Kailola (1975: 176). A specimen photographed in Kavieng region on 3 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey; a video of a specimen taken at Alexander Passage, off southeastern New Hanover, at 5–14 m depth, St. KR 96, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell). KFRS and USNM material.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: East Africa east to Line, Society and Tuamotu islands, north to Taiwan, south to northern Australia, Lord Howe and Norfolk islands. Found in sheltered coastal and lagoon reefs, 1–16 m depth. Marine.
