Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed at Kavieng fish market by Barry C. Russell on 7 June 2014; a specimen observed at Balang Island, New Hanover, 1–18 m depth, St. T 21, on 6 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa, Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to Tua Archipelago, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, New Caledonia and Tonga. Found in coral reef areas with dead staghorn corals, 0–5 m depth. Marine.
