Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken near Nusa Island, Kavieng District at 5–23 m depth, St. KR 8, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken at Martha's Shoal, off eastern New Hanover, at 7–41 m depth, St. KR 122, in 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Palau and Fiji, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary on coral-rich seaward reef slopes, 4–30 m depth. Marine.
