Pomacentrus amboinensis Bleeker 1868 — Ambon damselfish

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Kavieng, New Ireland as Pomacentrus dimidiatus by Duncker & Mohr (1929: 66), based on ZMH 11976. A specimen was photographed at Kavieng on 2 June 2013, second dive, during ACIAR Aquarium Survey; a video of a specimen taken at Alexander Passage, off southeastern New Hanover, at 5– 14 m depth, St. KR 96, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell). KFRS material.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Andaman Sea and Indonesia east to Caroline Islands and New Guinea, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Coral reefs, 1–40 m depth. Marine.
