Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen from off Kulinus Island, Kavieng District, 10–11 m depth, St. KR62, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Marquesas Islands and Pitcairn Group, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, New South Wales (Australia), Lord Howe Island, Tonga and Austral Islands. Found on rocky shores and reef flats, 1–10 m depth. Marine.
