Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken at northwestern Manne Island, Kavieng District, at 3–12 m depth, St. KR 14, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken at Martha's Shoal, off eastern New Hanover, at 7–41 m depth, St. KR 122, in 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: South and East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Wake Atoll, Marquesas Islands and Tuamotu Archipelago, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Lord Howe Island, New Caledonia and Tonga. Found in coral-rich areas of lagoons and seaward coral reefs, 2–12 m depth. Marine.
