Status at New Ireland. New record, based on photograph taken on 1 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District; a video of a specimen taken at Alexander Passage, off southeastern New Hanover, at 5–14 m depth, St. KR 96, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Christmas Island (eastern Indian Ocean) east to Yap (Caroline Islands) and Fiji, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in coastal, lagoon and seaward reefs, 0–32 m depth. Marine.
