Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, 3 m depth, by Dean Tully on 3 Sept. 2011; a specimen observed at Balang Island, New Hanover, 1–18 m depth, St. T 21, on 6 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian and Easter islands, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, New South Wales (Australia), Lord Howe and Norfolk islands, and Rapa. Found in seagrass beds and algal-covered flats, adjacent to lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 1–30 m depth. Marine.
