Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, 2 m depth, by Dean Tully on 16 Sept. 2012; a video of a specimen taken at Pochol Island, east of New Hanover, at 6–7 m depth, St. KD 62, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Eastern Andaman Sea and Indonesia east to Palau and New Guinea, north to Philippines, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary, in sheltered coral reefs; young fishes remove parasites from other fishes, 2–25 m depth. Marine.
