Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken near Wadei Island, Kavieng District at 11–15 m depth, St. KR 72, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken in Senta Pass, east of New Hanover at 5–12 m depth, St. KR 114, in 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Maldives and Chagos Archipelago east to Marshall Islands, Fiji and Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia. Found in sand-rubble bottoms near lagoon and seaward reefs, 2–30 m depth. Marine.
