Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken near Nusa Island, Kavieng District at 5–23 m depth, St. KR 8, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken off southern New Hanover at 3–47 m depth, St. KR 106, in 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: East Africa, western Mascarenes, Maldives and Chagos Archipelago east to Marshall Islands and Samoa, north to southern Japan, south to Lord Howe Island, New Caledonia and Kermadec Islands. Found on the edge of reef slopes, 5–30 m depth. Marine.
