Pseudocheilinus hexataenia (Bleeker 1857) —Sixstripe wrasse

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from islands off Kavieng, New Ireland by Randall (1999: 20). Specimens observed in Kavieng Lagoon by Jeff Kinch during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in 2013 (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 15, as P. hexataenis); a video of a specimen taken off southeastern New Hanover, at 6–21 m depth, St. KR124, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell). USNM material.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Johnston, Line and Tuamotu islands, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to northern Australia and Lord Howe Island. Secretive, among branching corals, 1–35 m depth. Marine.
