Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken near Wadei Island, Kavieng District at 11–15 m depth, St. KR 72, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); a specimen observed at Balang Island, New Hanover, 0–18 m depth, St. T 21, on 6 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Cocos-Keeling and Christmas islands, South China Sea to Line Islands, French Polynesia, Australia and Kermadec Islands, north to Japan; Revillagigedo Archipelago (Mexico). Found in coastal and seaward coral reefs, 0–20 m depth. Marine.
