Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen in a video of a specimen taken east of Nago Island, Kavieng District, at 2–9 m depth, St. KR28, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: East Africa east to Hawaiian Islands and Society Islands, south to Western Australia, New Caledonia and Tonga, north to Philippines. Secretive in crevices, in lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 8–42 m depth. Marine.
