Status at New Ireland. First recorded from off Kavieng, New Ireland by Randall (1983: 879–880), based on USNM 236268.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Marshall and Marquesas islands and Pitcairn Group, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Secretive, in coral reefs, 1–30 m depth. Marine.
