Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed in Kavieng Lagoon by Jeff Kinch during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in 2013 (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 15); a video of a specimen taken off southern New Hanover at 3–47 m depth, St. KR 106, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Eastern Indonesia east to Marshall Islands and Fiji, north to Philippines, south to New Caledonia and Vanuatu. Solitary or in pairs, on steep slopes of lagoon and seaward coral reefs, especially on the seaward slopes of the barrier reef, 4–52 m depth. Marine.
