Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken in Steffen Channel, Kavieng District, St. KR34, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken off southern New Hanover at 3–47 m depth, St. KR106, in 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Marshall Islands and Samoa, north to Philippines, Taiwan and Mariana Islands. Found on seaward reef slopes and in caves, 40–60 m depth. Marine.
