Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen in a video of a specimen taken at Manne Island, Kavieng District, 3–25 m depth, St. KR 42, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken at Tungelo Island, off southeastern New Hanover, at 3–46 m depth, St. KR 104, in 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: East Africa, South Africa, Mozambique Channel, Mauritius (Mascarenes), Maldives and Chagos Archipelago east to Palau, Line Islands, Marquesas Islands and Gambier Islands, south to New Caledonia and Tonga, north to Philippines. Found in seaward coral reefs, 10–40 m depth. Marine.
