Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen observed at Steffen Strait, Kavieng District, 1–25 m depth, St. T 13, on 2 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: East Africa, Seychelles, Comores and Mascarenes east to Society Islands, north to southern Japan and Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland (Australia), New Caledonia, and Tonga. Found on shallow reef crests and exposed fringing reefs, 0–3 m depth. Marine.
