Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland as Salarias alticus by Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes (1836: 337–339), based on MNHN material; reported as as Salarias tridactylus by Günther (1877a: 200).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 0.—General distribution: Sri Lanka east to Vanuatu, north to southern Japan. Found on rocky shorelines, including the intertidal zone, 1–2 m depth. Marine.
