Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, 14 m depth, by Dean Tully on 7 July 2011.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Maldives east to Marshall Islands and Pitcairn, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Solitary or in small groups, on sand-rubble bottoms near coral reefs, 3–50 m depth. Marine.
