Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken near Nusa Island, Kavieng District at 5–23 m depth, St. KR 8, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken in Senta Pass, east of New Hanover at 5–12 m depth, St. KR 114, in 2014.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Andaman Sea and Christmas Island east to Micronesia and New Caledonia, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Northern Territory (Australia). Found in lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 3–50 m depth. Marine.
