Acanthaphritis barbata (Okamura & Kishida 1963) —Barbel duckbill

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on NTUM 11301 (1 specimen, 62.7 mm SL, St. CP 4489-7, northwest of New Hanover).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: Philippines to Papua New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to northern Western Australia. Found on soft bottoms of the continental slope, 175–480 m depth. Marine.

Remarks. Another specimen was collected northeast of Normanby Island, Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea, NTUM 12272 (1 specimen, 54.7 mm SL, St. DW 4315-10, 09°50’S 151°31’E, 480–510 m depth, R/V Alis, 3 May 2014).
