Trichonotus setiger Bloch &Schneider 1801 —Spotted sand-diver
Status at New Ireland. New record, based on NTUM 11194 (1 specimen, 59.1 mm SL, St. CP 4455-21, northeast of Bauddisson Island). A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District by Dietmar Amon on 10 May 2009.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Sand and rubble bottoms, 1–60 m depth. Marine.
Remarks. The species was previously known from depths of 1–20 m; the present specimen represents a new depth record for the species, which occurs down to at least 60 m depth.
