Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken off Nusa Island, Kavieng District, 2–18 m depth, St. KR32, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: South and East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to Wake Atoll and Pitcairn Group, north to central Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, New South Wales (Australia), northern New Zealand, New Caledonia and Rapa. Found in lagoon and seaward reefs, 1–20 m depth. Marine.
