Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken near Nusa Island, Kavieng District at 5–23 m depth, St. KR8, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Philippines and New Guinea and Solomon Islands, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Found on sand bottom of coastal and seaward reefs, associated with an alpheid shrimp, 6–30 m depth. Marine.
