Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Lavolai, New Ireland as Ophiocara aporos by Koumans (1937: 25).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Madagascar east to Marshall Islands and Vanuatu, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in lagoons, estuaries and freshwater; occurs in the lower reaches of freshwater streams, usually on mud bottoms, 0–5 m depth. Freshwater, transitional water and marine.
