Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 4–5 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District; a video of a specimen taken at Anelaua Island, off eastern New Hanover, at 3–16 m depth, St. KR 98, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Palau and Solomon Islands, north to Philippines, south to Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in groups hovering over branched or tabular corals, 0–15 m depth. Marine.
