Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Ysabel Pass, New Hanover by Kailola (1975: 208). A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District by Dietmar Amon on 2 Aug. 2009, and at 10 m depth by Dean Tully on 9 July 2011; a video of a specimen taken east of Nago Island, Kavieng District, at 2–9 m depth, St. KR 28, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Cocos-Keeling Islands (eastern Indian Ocean) east to Marquesas and Tuamotu islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and Lord Howe Island. Found on sand-rubble bottoms of reef flats and in sheltered bays, 0–52 m depth. Marine.
