Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland by Allen & Erdmann (2012: 910); a specimen observed at Selapiu Island, Kavieng District, 1–6 m depth, St. T 15, on 3 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen; also at Balang Island, New Hanover, 0–18 m depth, St. T 21, on 6 Nov. 2006 .
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Wake Atoll, Hawaiian and Tuamotu islands, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, Lord Howe Island and Rapa. Found on algal-coated reef rock and rubble of inner flats and turbid coral reef lagoons, 0–12 m depth. Marine.
