Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken at Anelaua Island, off eastern New Hanover, at 3–16 m depth, St. KR 98, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); a specimen observed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, 1–10 m depth, St. T 6, on 31 Oct. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and Seychelles east to Line Islands, Samoa Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and Lord Howe Island. Found in sheltered coastal reefs, 1–10 m depth. Marine.
