Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken at Anelaua Island, off eastern New Hanover, 4–12 m depth, St. KR 130, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); a specimen observed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, 1–10 m depth, St. T 6, on 31 Oct. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Marshall Islands and Fiji, south to northern Australia. Found in lagoon and seaward reefs, 1–30 m depth. Marine.
