Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken east of Nago Island, Kavieng District, at 2–9 m depth, St. KR28, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken at Kawauiliaka Island, off northeastern New Hanover, at 3–12 m depth, St. KR132, in 2014.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Marshall and Society islands, north to Ryukyu Islands and Taiwan, south to Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Found on fine sand bottom of sheltered coastal reefs, 1–20 m depth. Marine.
