Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed on 5 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District; a video of a specimen taken off southern New Hanover, at 4–51 m depth, St. KR 110, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Eastern Andaman Sea and Indonesia east to New Guinea, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Chesterfield Islands. Found in sheltered reefs, 4–20 m depth. Marine.
