Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District by Dietmar Amon on 2 Aug. 2009, and at 10 m depth by Dean Tully on 20 Sept. 2012; a video of a specimen taken at Nubilus Island, off eastern New Hanover, 3–25 m depth, St. KR 90, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: East Africa and Persian Gulf east to Caroline Islands and Tonga, north to Taiwan, south to Queensland (Australia). Solitary, on sand at base of overhanging corals, 5–25 m depth. Marine.
