Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 3 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 15). Specimens photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 9 Aug. 2009 and 1 Jan. 2010; a video of a specimen taken at Tungelo Island, off southeastern New Hanover, at 3–46 m depth, St. KR 104, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell). WAM material (WAM P.28186-006, 2 specimens, Kavieng).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and Mauritius east to Marshall Islands and Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland (Australia). Found in burrows on sand-rubble patches of slopes, 28–68 m depth. Marine.
