Ptereleotris heteroptera (Bleeker 1855) —Spot-tail dartfish

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, 16 m depth, by Dean Tully on 7 July 2011; another pair photographed at St. KVG22 (northeast of Lemus Island, Kavieng District) by Serge Andréfouët on 21 Aug. 2014 ; a video of a specimen taken in Senta Pass, east of New Hanover at 5–12 m depth, St. KR 114, in 2014 .

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Hawaiian, Line and Society islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to New South Wales (Australia). Found in burrows on sand or coral rubble bottom on the barrier reef slope, 3–46 m depth. Marine.
