Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken in Albatross Passage, southwestern Kavieng District, at 3–39 m depth, St. KR51, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Mozambique Channel, Seychelles and western Mascarenes east to Line Islands and Marquesas Islands, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to New South Wales (Australia), New Caledonia and Lord Howe Island. Found in exposed areas near reefs, 2–10 m depth. Marine.
