Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken on north coast of Manne Island, Kavieng District at 1–11 m depth, St. KR 36, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken at Alexander Passage, off southeastern New Hanover, at 5–14 m depth, St. KR 96, in 2014.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa east to Hawaiian and Line islands and Tuamotu Archipelago, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, New South Wales (Australia), New Caledonia and Tonga. Found on sand-rubble bottoms near reefs, 1–22 m depth. Marine.
