Status at New Ireland. Reported from New Ireland in original description by Winterbottom (2005: 36), based on WAM P28126-013; a video of a specimen taken east of Albatross Passage, southwestern Kavieng District, 2–38 m depth, St. KR 44, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken at Tungelo Island, off southeastern New Hanover, at 3–46 m depth, St. KR 104, in 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Central Indonesia east to Palau and Fiji, north to Philippines, south to Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in loose schools near caves and overhangs, 5–41 m depth. Marine.
