Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken off Nusa Island, Kavieng District, 2–18 m depth, St. KR32, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar, Mauritius (Mascarenes) and Maldives east to Tonga and Samoa, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found on sand bottoms, in pairs, 8–25 m depth. Marine.
