Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 4 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 15, as C. tomensis); another photographed at St. KVG24 (off northwestern Bauddisson Island) by Serge Andréfouët on 22 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken at Tungelo Island, off southeastern New Hanover, at 3–46 m depth, St. KR 104, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Central Indonesia east to Palau and Fiji, north to Philippines, south to Queensland (Australia). Found in coral-rich areas of lagoons and seaward coral reefs, 5–40 m depth. Marine.
