Siganus lineatus (Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1835) —Lined rabbitfish

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland by Allen & Erdmann (2012: 1010). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005, and by Barry C. Russell during 7–28 June 2014; a video of a specimen taken off southern New Hanover at 3–47 m depth, St. KR 106, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Maldives and Sri Lanka; Eastern Indonesia east to Palau, Yap, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, north to Philippines, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in lagoons and coastal reefs, including mangrove habitats, 0–25 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
