Status at New Ireland. New record, based on photograph taken on 1 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium survey in Kavieng District (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 15); a specimen photographed at St. KVG 11 by Serge Andréfouët on 16 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken off southern New Hanover at 3–47 m depth, St. KR 106, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Caroline Islands and Vanuatu, north to Taiwan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in coral-rich areas, among staghorn corals in lagoons and seaward coral reefs, 1–30 m depth. Marine.
